Overview
At IU HEALTH NORTH Labor and Delivery, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care as an OB Level III Labor and Delivery unit, equipped with two OB operating suites and a Level III NICU. Our highly skilled and supportive team has access to a wealth of resources, ensuring the highest standards of patient care in both the operating room and Labor and Delivery Unit.
With an on-site Sterile Processing Department (SPD), we benefit from quick and efficient access to essential supplies and equipment, while having the added support of our main operating room team when needed. We provide 24/7 coverage with a Certified Surgical Technologist, without requiring mandatory on-call shifts. Most importantly, we work alongside a dedicated team of providers and nurses who foster a collaborative, positive, and rewarding work environment, making IU Health North Hospital a truly exceptional place to work and grow.
This position is a part time night shift role.
Responsibilities
CSTs provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. They assist in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. They provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. They assist in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
They work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
- Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
- Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
- Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.
- Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
- Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
- Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
