Bookkeeper/ Accounting Clerk
If you’re a Bookkeeper who takes real pride in clean books, but you’re a bit tired of being micromanaged or treated like support staff, this is one worth reading properly.
You’ll be joining a small CPA firm in Carmel, around 20 people in total, with a mix of tax prep, bookkeeping, payroll and admin. The President owns the firm and runs it like an entrepreneur. It is not a corporate structure with layers and levels. It's more organic than that.
They are interviewing now with a view to someone starting after 4/15, so this is very much about lining the right person up for post busy season rather than rushing a hire mid March.
This is a genuine Bookkeeper position, not light admin.
You will be responsible for maintaining accurate general ledgers in Quick Books Online and Desktop, properly categorising transactions, performing monthly bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations, managing A R and A P, posting journal entries where needed, and delivering clean Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports. The books need to be reconciled, defensible and tax ready.
The difference here is ownership.
You will be managing multiple clients at once, so you need to be organised, comfortable speaking directly with business owners, and confident in your understanding of debits, credits and accrual versus cash accounting. Public accounting or multi client experience would be helpful.
No one here will tell you that you must work a set number of hours. The expectation is that your clients are looked after and your deadlines are met. There is a huge amount of trust in how the firm operates. You manage your workload. You manage your schedule.
Hybrid is absolutely fine. They are not completely opposed to fully remote either and already have a couple of long standing team members working remotely, but ideally you are within reach of Carmel.
Culturally, they have a weekly all-hands meeting and a Christmas party at the end of the year. The bigger theme is balance, trust and space. Comp is competitive and reflective of experience.
If you are just browsing the job boards and have not dusted off that resume yet, that is not a problem, you can give me a call first on . If you prefer, you can drop me a connection or message here on Linked In, and we can pick up there.
If you have reviewed this advert and you are unsure whether to apply because you do not have all the required experience, we still encourage you to hit that apply button. We support the CPA firms we partner with in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, so even if your experience does not align perfectly, please do still apply. If this position is not quite right, it is highly likely we will have other public accounting positions that could be a good fit for you.
