Overview
Consultant in Pain Management - 2 posts available (5 sessions per week). To work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to deliver a first-class medical service within the Persistent Pain Service. The post holder will provide pain interventions for eligible patients and contribute to the development of sub-specialty interests across designated hospitals and community settings, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
Mainduties
- Lead the development of a comprehensive pain management service across the Health Board, based at Glangwili General Hospital.
- Deliver a robust weekday service, ensuring high standards of patient care.
- Provide outpatient clinics in both District General Hospital (DGH) and community settings.
- Undertake theatre-based pain interventions as clinically appropriate.
- Offer effective leadership and support to multidisciplinary team members.
- Promote and develop teaching, training, and research within the organisation.
Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Four main hospitals:
Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.
Seven community hospitals:
Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.
48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres. Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Essential
- Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.

- Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
- Experience of leading a team.
