Physician Associate – Microbiology Service
We have an exciting opportunity in West Wales as we are seeking to recruit a Physician Associate for the PHW microbiology service to the Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB).
The post is intended to support delivery of infection services to HDUHB, but it is anticipated that adequate time will be protected to allow training and education. Public Health Wales Microbiology has four centres in West Wales at Bronglais Hospital (Aberystwyth), Glangwili Hospital (Carmarthne), Prince Philip Hospital (LLanelli), and Withybush Hospital (Haverfordwest). The laboratory offers a comprehensive Microbiology service covering Bacteriology.
The Clinical Laboratories are ISO 15189 accredited and approved by a number of bodies for training purposes. Rapid, accurate and advanced molecular laboratory techniques are in use to provide a better diagnosis and patient care management.
- Undertake duties relating to the provision of the Clinical Microbiology / Infectious Diseases services across the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
- Formulate a detailed differential diagnosis having taken a history and completed a physical examination of patients / service users.
- Ensure continuity of a high standard of care, assessing the health needs of the patients and taking appropriate actions.
- Provide clinical advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis through to treatment.
- Work with patients and service users to agree a comprehensive management plan considering individual characteristics, background and circumstances.
- Accept responsibility for own caseload, developing accurate specialised care plans, which reflects the assessments undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made, ensuring clear documentation in the patient’s records.
- Be actively involved in all aspects of patient care, liaising with other members of the clinical team as appropriate, as determined by the clinical setting in which they are placed.
- Work with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team in the assessment of a patient for an admission or discharge.
