Instrument and Electrical Technician III (I&E Tech III)

Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico

Position Summary

The Instrument and Electrical Technician III is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems that support production operations. This role ensures all work is performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and company procedures, with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) excellence. The I&E Technician III provides advanced technical support, contributes to work planning and execution, and may act as a stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead as required.

Main

Functions
  • Install, maintain, test, and repair electrical and instrumentation equipment in accordance with established rules, practices, and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate electrical and control systems to identify deficiencies and develop corrective action plans.
  • Ensure production equipment operates within established performance levels and quality requirements.
  • Document system issues, corrective actions taken, and verify completion of work.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Safety, Compliance & Planning

  • Plan, update, and oversee activities within assigned areas in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Apply and follow the Permit to Work System (PTWS) in accordance with the Work Management Manual.
  • Ensure all work adheres to HSE requirements and promotes safe work practices at all times.
Operations & Maintenance Support
  • Support collaboration between operations, engineering, and project teams.
  • Ensure quality and timely completion of maintenance activities scheduled through the Maintenance Program.
  • Support work prioritization to maximize efficiency and align with other work groups.
  • Provide advanced technical support to other technicians for maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
Technical & Systems Responsibility
  • Maintain accountability for electrical and control systems as defined in the Work Management Manual.
  • Review and provide input on control specifications, work practices, and installation standards.
  • Construct, monitor, and inspect new installations to ensure alignment with company standards and operational objectives.
  • Recommend system upgrades and improvements as necessary.
Management of Change & Integrity
  • Generate Management of Change (MOC) requests related to electrical and control equipment or installations.
  • Follow up on installation inspections in alignment with the Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS), Element 3.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
  • Develop personal and team technical skills related to new regulations, equipment, methods, and technologies.
  • Attend and lead technical meetings or training sessions as needed to communicate updates on specifications, codes, procedures, and technologies.
  • Maintain open communication with coworkers on electrical and control issues, including training needs, materials, and safe work practices.
Leadership Support
  • Act as a stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead when required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related technical field (technical school training preferred).
  • Proven experience maintaining electrical systems and instrumentation/control systems in a processing plant or offshore production environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical and control systems maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Familiarity with Permit to Work systems, maintenance programs, and safety management systems.
Preferred
  • Experience in oil & gas, energy, or industrial processing facilities.
  • Ability to support MOC processes and integrity management systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to mentor junior technicians.
