Overview
Under direct supervision of the Office of Emergency Management Director, the Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of personnel and property by managing a comprehensive safety program. This includes safety policy development, accident investigations, and safety audits/inspections of all County departments. The Safety Officer position requires a proactive approach to safety management and includes conducting or arranging training specific to County departments.
The role ensures compliance with all County, State, and Federal laws, rules, regulations, and training regarding health and safety of employees and protection of property. The Safety Officer will oversee Risk Management and will direct, plan, organize, and administer the risk management and worker compensation programs to control risk.
Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings (in-state or out-of-state), and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct accident investigations and safety audits/inspections across County departments.
- Provide or coordinate safety training for departments within the County.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at the County, State, and Federal levels.
- Oversee Risk Management and manage the workers’ compensation program to control risk.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to promote a safe working environment.
- Attend job-related meetings as required, including travel as needed.
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to promoting a safe working environment.
- Experience in policy development, accident investigation, safety audits/inspections, and risk management preferred.
- Starting Salary Range: $36.12 - $39.86 per hour DOE
