Purpose And ScopeThe Grant Writer for Workforce & Community Education at Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is responsible for identifying, researching, developing, and writing grant proposals, as well as analyzing existing awards to support continuation and renewal funding. Proposals submitted by this role will aim to advance workforce development priorities, community education, and industry partnership initiatives. This position focuses on securing funding from government, foundation, and corporate opportunities, with an emphasis on industry sources.
This position works collaboratively with college leadership, faculty, staff, industry partners, and external stakeholders to translate workforce development training and community education needs into compelling, fundable projects that strengthen industry-aligned programs and support regional economic growth. As a key team member, this role advances workforce and community education initiatives through strategic funding development and stewardship. The Grant Writer also supports post-award compliance and implementation as needed.
DutiesAnd Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate grant opportunities from federal, state, foundation, private, and industry funding sources that align with Workforce & Community Education goals.
- Collaborate with department leadership, faculty, industry partners, and evaluators to prioritize funding strategies, develop workforce-aligned programming, measure project effectiveness and outcomes.
- Responsible for preparing, writing, editing, and submitting competitive grant proposals, including compelling narratives, needs assessments, budgets, work plans, and evaluation components, ensuring alignment with workforce development priorities, community education goals, and regional, industry-driven initiatives. Collaborates with relevant stakeholders throughout the process, with final review by the department head.
- Coordinate required documentation, letters of support, memoranda of understanding, and institutional approvals.
- Ensure proposals are compliant with funding guidelines, regulations, and submission requirements.
- Serve as a resource to program staff for awarded grants within workforce and community education as needed.
- Support program staff in understanding funding requirements and key deadlines associated with awarded grants.
- Collaborate with finance staff and program personnel to review grant budgets and expenditures as needed to support reporting and continuation funding.
