Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Preferred: Experience teaching or working in.

Experience with grant writing and management.
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Background

Located in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Purpose and Scope

Under the supervision of the Adult Education Director, the Adult Education Coordinator will assist with all student interactions in the program in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies and guidelines, and will provide administrative and operational support for all department initiatives, grant management and community engagement activities. This includes working with students, part-time instructors, the program director, office staff, the Workforce Department, and partnering agencies to design, develop, and deliver high-quality AE programming, student engagement, and career exploration.

  • Assist with registration, student success orientation, pre- and post-testing, and student goal setting.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, classroom schedules, and assessment records, and ensure timely submission.
  • Maintain professional and academic competencies, participate in professional development activities, and learn and adhere to NMHED Adult Education policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and compose professional correspondence, reports, grant narratives, and meeting materials for the Adult Education Director.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between the AE Director and industry partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Assist the director in promoting and improving the AE program by representing the department in the community, college, and at state and national conferences.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with students, staff, college personnel and partnering agencies.
  • Enter data into departmental forms and databases, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Select, train, assign, and supervise student employees.
  • Assist with campus and departmental events.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including copiers, computers, and phones.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and tactfulness in accordance with FERPA requirements and college policies.
  • Reply timely to inquiries (by phone, in person, and by email), selecting relevant data from a variety of sources and direct inquiries to appropriate individuals or departments.
  • May assist in managing the office calendar of events and deadlines, and scheduling meetings.
