Founded in 2022 in San Diego, California, Cisterna Biologics is an RNA technology company focused on overcoming fundamental limitations in RNA quality, yield, and cost. This is a full-time, on-site position for a Research Associate or Scientist at Cisterna Biologics in Carlsbad, CA. The role will focus on developing and optimizing novel technologies for the production and purification of both coding and non-coding RNAs. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include designing and performing experiments (including DNA template preparation and RNA synthesis), analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting results to the team.

RNA production is a core component of this role, with hands‑on involvement across synthesis, purification, and process optimization.

We are seeking a motivated Research Associate or Scientist to support and expand Cisterna Biologics’ R&D and commercial activities. This role is well suited for candidates with strong hands‑on laboratory experience who are eager to work on next‑generation RNA production and purification technologies. The successful candidate will take ownership of RNA production, contribute to the development and optimization of novel RNA technologies, analyze and interpret data, and communicate results effectively within a collaborative team environment.

The Research Associate role requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, while the Scientist role requires a PhD with zero years or a Master’s with at least three years of relevant laboratory experience. Recent graduates with substantial laboratory experience are strongly encouraged to apply; preference will be given to local Southern California candidates.

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
• Hands‑on experience in molecular biology and/or biochemistry
• Strong experience with (or desire to perform) oligo synthesis, PCR‑based DNA assembly, in vitro transcription (IVT) and other nucleic acid synthetic methods
• Familiarity with RNA technologies, including RNA purification and handling
• Experience with gene synthesis, Gibson assembly, molecular cloning, bacterial transformation, plasmid preparation, and sequence analysis
• Strong research, analytical, and data interpretation skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team in a fast‑paced environment
• High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills
• Understanding of basic quality control principles in a biotech or laboratory setting
