Job description
This is a good job for dynamic trainees wishing to pursue a career in Trauma & Orthopaedics and will provide a chance to be operating surgeon in trauma (DHS, nails, hip hemiarthroplasty, and wrist- and ankle fixations) as well as elective operations. The department has a well organised audit department and research nurses which helped previous post holders to gather solid portfolios in preparation of Specialist Training exams.
For more experienced trainees who plan to complete CESR route, we offer support and advice. MSc can be pursued in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire UCLAN if required.
The Trust Registrar will be responsible for the day-to-day care of all patients under the Consultants. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training. The successful candidate will be expected to work across the two hospital sites (Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven).

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows
- Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28. Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.
- Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56. Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.

* Subject to eligibility
- Full registration with the GMC
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCS, ATLS
- Care of the Critically ill patient
- Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge of specialty
- Competent in history taking and examination skills
- Previous broad experience in general trauma and general orthopaedics
- At least 2 years postgraduate experience or equivalent.
- Previous registrar experience
- An understanding of the principal skills of clinical audit
- Completion of an Audit project
- Able to communicate effectively with patients and relatives
- Able to establish good working relationships with colleagues at all levels
- Committed to training
- Possess good organisational skills
- Has the ability to work on own initiative but willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate
- Demonstrate awareness of the current UK health care system.
- Has the ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
- Demonstrate interest in research
- Demonstrate experience of teaching undergraduates
- Demonstrate experience of case presentation
