Job title: Team Leader, Children’s Services
Responsible to: Service Manager.

Hours - 16.75
Main Duties and Responsibilities Service Provision- Ensure that support staff encourage service users to be fully involved where it is practical in the running of their service.
- To provide support and meet the basic needs of the child/young person ensuring that the personal dignity and rights of the individual are respected at all times, using appropriate manual handling methods and equipment.
- Work within and promote the Safeguarding Policies of Carlisle Mencap, Cumbria’s Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and Children’s Services.
- Motivate and support the staff team.
- In conjunction with the service manager, organise shifts and rotas to meet the needs of the service users.
- Input into support plans, including personal care issues, social activities and risk assessments.
- Plan and oversee the running of children’s outreach services as well as funded activity sessions.
- Apply and monitor grants and tenders upon request of service manager.
- Uphold the vision and good standing of Carlisle Mencap.
- Liaise with families and other agencies as required. Complete initial assessments.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Source activities for service users.
- Be willing to undertake training specific to the position, including Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care Adults.
- Identify risks and act accordingly.
- Maintain records as appropriate and ensure staff read and sign paperwork in the service.
- Ensure that support staff assist service users in the safe keeping of their money and ensure budgets are kept to.
- To participate in relevant training to update and enhance knowledge base.
- To participate with the team, multidisciplinary team and other relevant individuals in working in a person-centred way.
- To participate in 1:1 supervision and appraisal with your supervisor in accordance with your agreed individual contract.
- Take part in the supervision of members of the staff team and appraisals.
- Attend and chair reviews and meetings as appropriate.
- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required. This may include transfer to another location.
- To take part in the On Call system for out of hours.
- Deputise for the manager when they are absent.
- Ensure open communication between staff, management and office staff.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Assist individuals with monies and help manage finances
- Ability to work decisively and within timescales.
- Be able to effectively deal with conflict
- Ability to use sign language e.g. Makaton
- Familiar with local community.

- Medication Management
- Willingness to work towards relevant training and qualifications relevant to your job role.
- Care Certificate
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or other qualification related to the role.
- Awareness of Person-Centred Planning principles.
- Previous experience of working with people with learning disabilities in a care setting.
- Experience of supervising staff
- Ability to manage in a variety of situations
- An open and approachable attitude.
- Able to work flexibly including evenings, weekends.
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Ability to lead a team
- Interests in various activities and hobbies such as swimming, art and craft, fell walking, football, gym, cooking, theatre, books etc.
