Job Summary
The primary purpose of the role is to provide chair side clinical supervision for dental students treating patients in the Carlisle Dental Education Centre.
Principal Responsibilities (Educational)- Provide lectures, seminars and tutorials in line with areas of expertise during the four‑year period of the course of study and participate in educational assessment processes.
- Participate in peer review and other quality and continuing educational and professional developmental activities.
- Participate in the dental student admissions process, including face‑to‑face interviews.
- Work collaboratively and co‑operatively with the University, the Dental Education Centres in the Medical & Dental Collaboration and other NHS and partner institutions.
- Undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the level of the post as required.
The clinical supervisor will be expected to participate in the assessment of student performance related to clinical activity undertaken in the Centre, work collaboratively with the full time Senior Clinical Teachers and dental staff of the Specialist & Special Care Dental Service to enhance clinical teaching.
They will be required to screen patients and also to provide a limited amount of emergency access care.
You will be part of a small team of clinical tutors, clinical supervisors and dental nurses delivering high quality, personalised training and education to a group of UCLan dental students and dental therapy students as they progress through their undergraduate training.

Salary and Working Pattern£81,716 to £95,579 a year per annum; permanent; part‑time, job share, flexible working.

- Experience of providing a wide range of dental treatments in a variety of settings.
- Experience of mentoring or work as a Clinical Supervisor or Educational Supervisor (desirable).
- Basic Life Support and the skills to lead a medical emergency.
- Experience of a range of teaching/training methods and styles (desirable).
- Organisational and leadership skills: ability to communicate with, support and motivate team.
- Able to present to small groups.
- Coaching and mentoring skills (desirable).
- BDS or equivalent.
- Registration with GDC.
- NHSE performer list number.
- Postgraduate teaching qualification (desirable).
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure & Barring Service check is required. The DBS cost will be met from salary over a period of 4 months or a one‑off payment.
Standard Check: £21.50 + administration £5.90 = £27.40.
Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration £5.90 = £55.40.
