Brief Description

You’ll help keep our nation moving every single day. A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network.

Your role is a tactical role to assist the Section Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures. You will supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. Assist in the management of staff as directed.

About

The Role (External)

You will be a specialist in Track – You’ll be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network, (also known as the Permanent Way or P-Way) to keep the railway safe and efficient. This is a very manual role as you’ll be working with rails, sleepers and ballast that support the trains, together with their associated drainage and ancillary structures.

You will:

  • Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
  • Prioritize work arising.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
  • Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.
  • Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.
  • Assist in the allocation of resources.
  • Delivery work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.
  • Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases and records.
  • Undertake a programme of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition checks as directed.
  • Assist in the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.
  • Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others.
Your Skills Matter

  • Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.
