What you’ll needWe are looking for an experienced Performance Lifestyle professional with a strong understanding of high-performance sport systems and the complex demands placed on athletes as they progress along their performance pathways. You will bring credibility through your experience of supporting high-performing individuals, alongside a clear understanding of how performance behaviours, personal development and wellbeing interact to enable sustained performance.
You will have a deep appreciation of athlete wellbeing, transitions and identity development, and the role that effective performance lifestyle support plays in creating environments that both drive performance and responsibly care for people. You’ll be committed to championing a person-first approach, ensuring athletes are supported to make informed, performance-driven decisions while developing the skills and broader identities needed for success in and beyond sport.
Working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and with a wide range of sport system partners, you will be comfortable building trusted relationships, influencing at a senior level and aligning services to strategic priorities. You will bring the curiosity and confidence to challenge existing practice, contribute to evidence-based innovation, and continually evolve how performance lifestyle services are designed and delivered — helping to create environments where athletes can thrive and where ‘winning well’ is embedded across the Welsh high-performance system.
Howyou’ll contribute
Wales is a proud part of the UK high performance system and has achieved unprecedented recent success on the world stage. We want to create the most science-informed sporting system in the world, enabling all athletes in Wales to thrive and making 'winning well' more likely.
We’re clear on the crucial role that the environment can play in improving the experiences of athletes and we want to ensure that athlete development environments in Wales are better than anywhere else. If you’ve got a passion for sport and for helping people to be the best version of themselves then this could be the role for you, and we’d love to hear from you.
You will contribute by leading on the ‘Navigating Transitions’ project in addition to applying your experience to other projects that the Sport System Institute Services team are responsible for. You will help to identify, explore, plan and deliver on projects that are aligned to our Institute purpose. You will support our learning around enhancing athlete development across pathways and our sharing of this with everyone that needs to know.
Whoyou’ll work with
You will need to develop strong relationships with coaches and other staff in sports, members of the sport system institute services team, and wider Sport Wales colleagues to support our partners to identify, co-create and deliver athlete development projects across Wales. You will need to collaborate with other key stakeholders including athletes and other support staff across the UK performance sport system, Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and Universities.
