Overview
We have an exciting opportunity where you can truly make a difference. We're looking for a confident and passionate chef to create delicious and nutritious meals for our tenants in EXTRA CARE SERVICE in FAIRWATER, CARDIFF. As ASSISTANT CHEF you will play a key role in the catering team, supporting to make mealtimes something for the residents to really look forward to.
This is a part time (30 hours) permanent position, working 5 days per week (including bank holidays) with every other weekend off. Shifts are arranged to best support the scheme and you would rarely work past 3pm. - Great communicator – You'll work closely with the Service Manager, food service assistants, and tenants. Being friendly and approachable is a must.
- Kitchen experience – You will need some experience working in a professional fresh-food kitchen and hold a basic catering qualification (QCF/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
- Organised and detail-focused – From chopping and mixing to paperwork, you’ll handle menu planning, stock control, HACCP records, food hygiene compliance, and budgeting. You’ll keep the kitchen spotless and understand the importance of Health & Safety and Food Safety.
- Team player – Positive, supportive, and inclusive attitude towards colleagues and tenants.

- As Assistant Chef, create delicious, nutritious meals for tenants daily, sourcing fresh ingredients and ensuring top Health & Safety standards.
- Support the catering team and design menus that cater to cultural and dietary needs.
- Prepare and manage food service operations to make mealtimes enjoyable for residents.
- Annual salary of £24,326
