Job Introduction
Join our South West & Wales Control Centre Team as a Team Leader within our Control Operations Support function. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure the smooth running of our Control Centre operations by leading a team that plays a vital part in our service delivery. You’ll be responsible for driving performance, supporting your team to excel, maximising potential and ensuring they’re equipped to deliver exceptional customer service.
This is a full‑time, 37‑hour‑per‑week role based in our Cardiff depot, requiring you to be on site five days a week. Whilst your core working pattern will follow daytime office hours, there may be occasions where you are needed to be flexible to provide shift cover or to support operational needs especially during storm periods. In this position, you will manage a team of Control Support Staff who work a variety of shift patterns, including days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team to ensure full compliance of business requirements and Operational Processes, supporting the wider Control Engineer teams
- Coordinate programmes of work to ensure the optimum productivity of your team.
- Collaborate with Network Operation Managers, Development & Compliance Manager and Control Centre Operations Manager to ensure efficient delivery.
- Manage the team performance to achieve and maintain optimum quality service to both internal and external customers.
- Measure and monitor the performance of the team through the development of KPIs.
- Ensure the team have the appropriate training to support a safe and productive working environment.
- Manage team Rotas to ensure adequate, efficient and productive coverage.
- Agree and act upon development programmes with team members to support performance and personal development.
- Support, collate and issue management information and reports for the Control Management team.
- Promote effective teamwork.
- Implement and manage any changes to processes / policies
- Develop and practise a good understanding of H & S legislation, such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.
- Proven leadership skills and experience, ideally including guiding teams through growth initiatives
- A strong understanding of team performance management
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate people, projects and tasks efficiently
- Strong problem‑solving ability
- Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships
- Experience implementing process changes, driving efficiency, and identifying opportunities for automation or improvement (desirable)
- A City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant electrical engineering and or leadership discipline is desirable yet not essential and applications will also be considered from candidates with demonstrable experience in place of formal qualifications.
- Experience using systems such as databases, digital mapping or network tools is advantageous but not essential
- A level of engineering knowledge or technical awareness to support informed decision‑making (desirable)
- The ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced environment, supported by a strong work ethic and a commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes

To meet national security vetting requirements you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years for Security Clearance (SC) prior to the date of application. - you have been serving overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of HM Government

- you were living overseas with parents
