Overview
To provide effective leadership and be accountable for the safe and efficient management of the Respite childrens home.
To ensure that the home achieves compliance with its Statement of Purposes (SoP) at all times and that the children and young people placed at the home receive the appropriate support to enable them to achieve positive and agreed outcomes in line with their care and support plans.
To meet the fit persons requirements of a Registered Manager with the approval of CIW.
To fulfil all duties and responsibilities of a Registered Manager as required by the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) 2016.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesJob Specific
Provide effective leadership by:
- Accepting responsibility and accountability for all the day to day activities of the home and providing an example to be followed by others, creating an open, positive and inclusive atmosphere in the home.
- Developing and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including Health colleagues, Education colleagues, members of the local community, children, young people and their families, CIW, Case Management Social Workers.
- Representing the home to relevant individuals and organisations to ensure that the home and the services it provides is well recognised and achieves and maintains positive recognit6ion both with professionals, children and young people and their families and members of the local community.
- Ensure that the homes SoP, is accurate up to date and regularly reviewed to ensure that compliance is achieved at all times
- Define values and policies which take into account the requirements, expectations and policies of the home, Childrens Services and Cardiff Council ensuring that key operational policies are maintained and available to employees, children and young people resident at the home as appropriate.
- Actively promote understanding, implementation and compliance with the agreed model of care for the home (eg, Restorative Approaches) and behaviour support programme (Strategies for Crisis Intervention & Prevention) and establish an effective key work system to support this, which includes the provision of individual and group work.
- To take the role of Practice Leader, supporting and encouraging a Signs of Safety culture within the service.
- Accept responsibility for developing own knowledge and skills, and for promoting the concept of lifelong learning for both residents and staff. At appropriate intervals, make assessments of performance, progress etc identifying development proposals in line with current objectives.
- Prioritise own work, setting and agreeing SMART objectives as appropriate and ensure that any significant delays in progress are dealt with satisfactorily.
- Gain the support, trust and confidence of team members and colleagues outside the home by providing appropriate communication, consultation and involvement in key areas of activity and decision making. Minimise personal conflicts by ensuring that values, standards and behaviour and performance are understood and observed, and that problem areas are discussed and dealt with in an appropriate way.
- Ensure that staffing levels of the home and the skill mix required by the home is reviewed frequently, in line with agreed levels of service and operational demands. Monitor staff usage, supervision and control, taking action where possible, to ensure a close match between staffing levels and need.
- Monitor the recruitment processes within the home to ensure that best practice is observed.
- Delegate responsibility and authority to team members, taking into account equality of opportunity, ability of individuals and their development needs. Review such delegation as appropriate to ensure effectiveness.
- Assist team members with performance problems, providing guidance, encouragement etc, implement performance management (capability) policies as necessary, taking appropriate and corrective action as determined by the circumstances.
- Chair meetings (team meetings, monthly Placement reviews etc) and ensure that meetings are conducted in a manner which promotes involvement, understanding and achievement of objectives.
- Examine, review and evaluate services provided by the home to ensure they meet current levels of need and achieve the desired outcomes for children and young people.
- Ensure that services are provided to children and young people at the agreed time, and to the relevant specification and quality, and consistent with individual assessments which have been undertaken, care plans etc, and that these are regularly reviewed by the home.
- Co-ordinate the identification, frequent review and management of the homes structure, key processes, records and systems in line with changes in care practice and recommended national standards, changing legislation improvement in operational efficiently etc. Ensure that any changes are appropriately communicated and implemented in line with needs of…
