Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with supportive and forward‑thinking schools across Cardiff to recruit dedicated and practical Caretakers who can ensure school premises are safe, secure, and well‑maintained at all times.

This role offers the opportunity to play a vital part in the smooth day‑to‑day running of a school, supporting both staff and pupils by creating a positive and well‑managed environment.

• Open and close the school site, ensuring security procedures are followed
• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs, and basic DIY tasks
• Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and alarm systems
• Ensure health & safety regulations are met across the site
• Manage site cleanliness and liaise with cleaning teams where appropriate
• Conduct regular site inspections and report any issues promptly
• Support with setting up rooms and facilities for school events
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and site security at all times

• Previous caretaking, site management, or facilities experience (school experience desirable)
• A strong understanding of health & safety procedures
• Practical maintenance and DIY skills
• Good communication and organisational skills
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)

Desirable:

• Experience working within a school environment
• Knowledge of COSHH and compliance requirements
• Basic ICT skills for logging maintenance records

Any appointment will be subject to:

• A successful interview process

• Safeguarding & Prevent training

• Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
• Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £64.20 unless subscribed to the Update Service)
• Successful completion of a 12‑week / 60 paid day employment trial period

• Weekly pay – no waiting for monthly payroll cut‑off dates;
  Elementa pays one week in lieu
• PAYE contract – unless requested otherwise, providing full employment protections
