Location: Cardiff and Barry (Based in Cardiff)
Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00
- Friday: 07:30 - 15:00
We're looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Cardiff, replacing a long-standing team member who is retiring in September. This is a hands‑on role supporting the smooth operation of the port's critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Cardiff site
- Working on heavy plant equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting
Please note: You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, including accessing cranes and lock bridge areas.
Skills, experiences, qualifications- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems
- Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges)
- Hands‑on approach with excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing
- Ex‑forces background welcomed
- Strong commitment to health and safety practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close‑knit team
- Flexible to travel occasionally to Barry as required
