The Material Transfer and Recovery (MTR) service plays a vital role in the Council’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility. Operating across multiple facilities—including Domestic and Commercial Recycling Centres, a Waste Transfer Station, and a Material Processing & Baling Facility—the service ensures the efficient recovery of materials and maximises their value through high-quality processing and compliance with environmental standards.

The role involves driving and operating waste management vehicles to support the movement and processing of waste across Council sites. In addition to HGV-breaking driving, you will cover site attendant duties, be responsible for opening and securing sites, engaging with site users, and ensuring compliance with site rules and environmental permits.
What We Are Looking For From YouThe ideal candidate will have proven experience driving HGVs, preferably with hooklift or skip systems, and demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance. Reliability and trustworthiness are essential, particularly in acting stairs as a key holder for site opening and closing. The role requires confidence in using both digital and paper-based record-keeping systems, as wellisión as the ability to engage comfortably with site users and provide clear guidance.
Flexibility to work across multiple locations, including weekends and bank holidays, is also important.

This role is not suitable for flexible or agile working due to its operational nature.
The posts will be based at both Lamby Way & Bessemer Depots however you will be expected to work from various locations and may be required to work overtime during peak periods.
A full and valid class 2 driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.
