Overview
The Opportunity Are you a motivated and enthusiastic University student looking to enhance your knowledge and experience in the legal sector? Join us for an immersive two-week legal placement in our Cardiff city centre office, where you’ll get a real taste of life in practice.
What To Expect- Successful candidates will be invited to choose two areas of law that interest them, spending one week in each specialist area.
- Hands-on experience preparing legal correspondence.
- Gain insight into real case files (opening, closing & organising).
- Shadow solicitors and legal professionals as they work with clients in person, by phone and email.
- Contribute meaningfully to active files and matters.
- Unpaid summer opportunity.
- On-site in Cardiff city centre.
- 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm).
- 2 weeks / 70 hours total.
- Work alongside experienced solicitors and legal professionals, contributing to real cases across various practice areas.
- Receive guidance and feedback from senior lawyers to develop your legal knowledge and career skills.
- Build connections with professionals and peers in the legal sector.
- Enhance your legal capabilities through practical tasks and professional development sessions.

- Law students in their second or third year of university studies, who are keen to explore two areas of law during their time with Howells Solicitors and are available for 2 consecutive weeks to attend our Cardiff office in either June, July or August 2026.
- The successful candidates should have a strong interest in the legal field, a passion for learning and will also be motivated, proactive and eager to contribute, making the most of this valuable experience.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Empathy and understanding of dealing with clients.
- Willingness to learn and engage with the Howells culture.
- Commitment, dedication and attention to detail.
- Energy / initiative – taking ownership and pride in your work.
