Neway International are seeking a Prosecutions Solicitor to join our client based with Cardiff Council.

Hours:

Pay Rate: £25.00 PAYE / £32.70 Umbrella

About the Client Cardiff Council’s Governance and Legal Services Directorate provides a comprehensive, high‑quality legal service supporting the Council’s statutory duties, regulatory functions, and corporate priorities.

The Litigation Team handles a wide range of civil and criminal matters, ensuring the Council’s interests are protected and its responsibilities are met with professionalism and integrity.

This role sits within the Prosecutions arm of the Litigation Team, contributing directly to the Council’s regulatory enforcement and wider litigation responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct criminal regulatory prosecutions on behalf of the Council.
  • Provide legal advice on criminal law, governance, policy, and the Council’s statutory functions.
  • Prepare cases, documentation, and evidence for legal and quasi‑legal proceedings.
  • Act as the Council’s advocate in courts, tribunals, hearings, and inquiries, including contested matters.
  • Support the implementation of Council decisions relating to legal matters.
  • Advise committees, panels, and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Manage disputes, complaints, and associated legal processes.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and regulatory developments.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive legal service within the Litigation Team.
  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues and provide support to junior staff where appropriate.
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate (or equivalent qualification enabling practice).
  • Experience in criminal litigation and/or regulatory prosecutions.
  • Practical knowledge of public law.
  • Strong advocacy skills with the ability to represent the Council in court.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong drafting ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within a professional legal team.
  • Competent IT user.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and continuous service improvement.
  • Ability to travel to various locations as required.
