About the role
Due to continuous growth we have a great opportunity for 2 Azure Infrastructure Engineers to join us at ARO in Cardiff. One at 2nd line level (Azure Engineer) and one at 3rd line level (Senior Azure Engineer). The duties will vary depending on experience with the 2nd line role being more focused on supporting the senior member of the team and building your knowledge and experience.
The salary for the 2nd line role is from £34,000 and for the Senior 3rd line role, from £44,000. The Azure Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the build, operation, and support of Microsoft Azure environments within a Managed Services model. This is a hands‑on, operational role focused on supporting existing Azure platforms, implementing approved designs, maintaining platform stability, automating repeatable tasks, and providing high‑quality Azure support to customers.
The role works closely with senior engineers, architects, and external partners to ensure Azure platforms are secure, resilient, and compliant.
Please note that this is a Hybrid role with weekly onsite requirement. You must be able to commute to the office and have your own transport.
What you’ll do- Azure Platform Build & Operations
- Deploy and maintain Azure resources across customer environments
- Implement and support Azure landing zones and subscription structures
- Operate Azure services in line with governance, security, and compliance standards
- Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management activities
- Configure and support Azure networking components including:
- VNets, peering, NSGs
- Azure Firewall
- Application Gateway
- Azure DNS and UDRs
- Support Express Route and hybrid connectivity, including troubleshooting and failover testing
- Work with external partners managing hub or shared services
- Deploy, configure, and support Azure API Management (APIM)
- Manage APIs, policies, certificates, and integrations
- Troubleshoot APIM availability, performance, and connectivity issues
- Build and maintain IaC using Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure delivery
- Improve repeatability, reliability, and deployment quality
- Monitor environments using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
- Participate in incident response, problem management, and RCA
- Identify opportunities for optimisation (cost, performance, security)
- Act as a technical point of contact within managed services engagements
- Produce documentation, runbooks, and operational handovers
- Support and mentor junior engineers
Essential:
3rd line (Senior)- Some hands‑on experience working with Microsoft Azure (commercial, placement, or lab‑based).
- Experience in an MSP or IT support environment.
- Basic understanding of Azure services, particularly compute, networking, and identity.
- Interest in cloud infrastructure and managed services environments.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with customers and internal teams.
Desirable:
3rd line- Azure certifications (AZ‑104, AZ‑305)
- Power Shell or Azure CLI scripting
- Experience with Azure Dev Ops or Git Hub Actions
- Exposure to Azure networking concepts (VNets, NSGs, VPNs).
- Basic experience with Infrastructure as Code or scripting.
- Familiarity with Power Shell or Azure CLI.
- Entry‑level Azure certifications (AZ‑900, AZ‑104).
