Overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a part-time Band 8a Psychologist (0.6wte) to join us in delivering a clinical neuropsychological service to people with motor neurone disease (MND), under the care of the South Wales Motor Neurone Disease Care and Research Network (SWMNDCRN). This is a newly-funded part time post, with scope for further development and funding past 2 years.

The postholder will join supportive and friendly colleagues, including an experienced multi-disciplinary team, a large team of clinical/neuropsychologists, and the wider Health Psychology Specialty. The role requires delivering on all aspects of the service across the South Wales region, which includes direct work with individuals, working with families, supporting the multi-disciplinary team and offering consultation, reflective practice and supervision.

There is access to a wealth of supervision within our supportive neuropsychology department. The post holder will be able to develop specialist skills with supervision from a Consultant Neuropsychologist. We have strong teaching and research links with Cardiff University, and research interests are encouraged.

We are looking for an applicant with interests in neuropsychological assessment, neurorehabilitation, end of life care and team consultation. This post would appeal to an enthusiastic practitioner who holds patient care at the centre of their work.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a specialised psychology service to adults with MND and their families/carers.
  • The post holder will provide specialised assessments and interventions for patients and their families/carers.
  • The post holder will play a key role in providing a specialised neuropsychology service to the SWMNDCRN, as well as outreach across the region.
  • The post-holder will offer advice and consultation on psychological care to the multi-disciplinary team and wider, working within national and professional guidelines and departmental procedures.
  • The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research within UHB guidance.
  • This role will include design of services including complex psychological assessments, formulation and treatment on an individual and group basis, multi-disciplinary work, consultancy, liaison, research, teaching, and supervision of others.
  • The post-holder is required to work autonomously planning and organising their own clinical work and other duties/responsibilities. The service covers South Wales and will require work with different health boards and travel across this region.
  • To offer supervision and teaching to doctoral trainee clinical psychologists as a lead supervisor.
