Overview
Cardiff Council's Planning, Transport & Environment directorate oversees key operational and environmental services across the city. The Materials, Transfer and Recovery Department plays a vital role in ensuring compliant, efficient, and sustainable waste management. The team is committed to high standards of governance, continuous improvement, and alignment with national legislation and policy.
Responsibilities- The Waste Audit & Contract Officer will deliver a monitoring and auditing function across the Materials, Transfer and Recovery Department, ensuring compliance with legislation, internal governance, and waste-related policies.
- Conduct routine waste audits across the department.
- Undertake spot checks to ensure accurate completion of Waste Transfer Notes, site diaries, and vehicle access/egress records.
- Support the development and implementation of waste-related initiatives to improve compliance and waste hierarchy performance.
- Lead on preparing documentation for external BSI and PAS
400 audits. - Support weighbridge operations, ensuring accurate classification and recording of waste streams.
- Manage the Grade 4 Material Movement Administrator and provide guidance on queries.
- Verify correct documentation of hazardous waste, including consignment notes.
- Promote and uphold the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
- Experience in an auditing or compliance role (ideal).
- Experience working within an operational environment or the waste industry.
- Ability to travel occasionally to the Bessemer Commercial Site using own vehicle.
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and national policy.
- Accurate, methodical, and meticulous approach to work.
- Ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage complex or conflicting issues.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Computer literacy, including Word and Excel.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Good understanding of current data protection regulations.
- Relevant degree, HND, or equivalent industry-recognised qualification/experience.
- Full driving licence.
