Overview

Neway International are seeking a Waste Audit & Contract Officer to join our client based with Cardiff Council.

Location:

Lamby Way Cleansing Depot

Hours:

37 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:00

Start Date:

13/04/2026

End Date: initially for 3 months, extended after review

The Role

The Waste Audit & Contract Officer will deliver a monitoring and auditing function across the Materials, Transfer and Recovery Department, ensuring compliance with legislation, internal governance, and waste‑related policies. The role includes routine waste audits, documentation checks, and supporting operational improvements within the waste hierarchy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine waste audits across the department.
  • Undertake spot checks to ensure accurate completion of Waste Transfer Notes, site diaries, and vehicle access/egress records.
  • Support the development and implementation of waste‑related initiatives to improve compliance and waste hierarchy performance.
  • Lead on preparing documentation for external BSI and PAS
    400 audits.
  • Support weighbridge operations, ensuring accurate classification and recording of waste streams.
  • Manage the Grade 4 Material Movement Administrator and provide guidance on queries.
  • Verify correct documentation of hazardous waste, including consignment notes.
  • Promote and uphold the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience in an auditing or compliance role (ideal).
  • Experience working within an operational environment or the waste industry.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to the Bessemer Commercial Site using own vehicle.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and national policy.
  • Accurate, methodical, and meticulous approach to work.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage complex or conflicting issues.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy, including Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Good understanding of current data protection regulations.
  • Relevant degree, HND, or equivalent industry‑recognised qualification/experience.
  • Full driving licence.
