Job summary

At Ofgem, strengthening the financial resilience of the retail energy market is central to protecting consumers, and we’re seeking two Financial Supervisors to help shape how we oversee and challenge energy suppliers.

Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.

We’re offering two permanent opportunities within our Financial Supervision team, where you’ll operate at the centre of how we assess and influence the financial robustness of domestic and non-domestic energy suppliers.

You’ll play a visible role in shaping and delivering supervisory strategy for a portfolio of assigned licensees, working closely with company executives, board members and regulatory leads. Through analysis, judgement and constructive challenge, you’ll help drive improvements in financial resilience and influence behaviour across the sector.

Working across a collaborative and forward-looking team, you’ll contribute to complex supervision activity, oversee significant pieces of project work and support continuous improvement in how we operate. This role offers breadth, exposure and influence, as well as opportunities to develop your skills and experience across varied areas, including policy development and project management.

We’re looking for candidates with a strong background in finance, insolvency or risk management, who are confident interpreting complex regulation and applying it in practice. You’ll bring excellent analytical capability, clear communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with senior external stakeholders. Experience of delivering positive change through regulation, compliance, risk or policy environments will be key.

In return, you’ll join a dynamic and supportive team working on issues that have real impact for consumers and the wider economy. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your expertise within Ofgem’s Analysis Profession, broaden your supervisory experience and contribute to a retail market that is resilient, competitive and aligned with the transition to Net Zero.

We have a critical purpose to ensure the retail energy market works in the interests of consumers, both now and in the future. Join us and help strengthen the financial foundations of Great Britain’s energy sector.
