Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our UK Town Planning team sits within a multidisciplinary environment, working closely with colleagues across transport, environmental services, engineering, design and sustainability. Together, we support some of the UK’s most complex and high‑profile developments, helping clients navigate change and create places that work for people, communities and the environment.

The Opportunity

This is a chance to join a collaborative planning team working on a diverse portfolio of projects across development management, infrastructure and planning policy. What makes this role unique is the breadth of exposure you’ll gain — from supporting local development proposals to contributing to nationally significant infrastructure schemes — all while being part of integrated teams that value learning, innovation and shared problem‑solving.

You’ll be trusted with real responsibility early on, with the support of experienced colleagues around you.

Day to day, you’ll be involved in preparing planning submissions, supporting policy and plan‑making work, engaging with clients and stakeholders, and coordinating inputs from across Arup’s disciplines. Alongside project delivery, you’ll have clear opportunities to grow — whether that’s developing technical expertise, strengthening client‑facing skills or shaping your longer‑term career pathway within Arup’s planning community.

Qualifications
  • Degree in town planning or a similar equivalent degree & membership (or working towards membership) of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
  • Good knowledge of planning legislation and planning policy in the English and Welsh systems.
  • Experience of working for a planning consultancy, local planning authority or other role in the planning sector.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues concisely, write reports and present effectively.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners.
  • Commitment to learning, development and taking on new opportunities.
