Overview
Service & Commissioning Engineer - Smoke, Fire & Security Systems
Location: UK (Field-based)
Hours: Monday to Friday | Minimum 40 hours per week
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (DOE)
Contract: Permanent
You will be responsible for commissioning, servicing, maintaining, and fault-finding smoke ventilation and life safety systems across commercial and residential sites, ensuring systems operate in line with regulations and design intent.
Responsibilities- Commissioning smoke ventilation systems, including smoke/fire dampers, smoke extract fans, shafts, and control panels
- Programming, testing, and validating cause & effect in line with engineering drawings and fire strategies
- Servicing, fault finding, and maintaining smoke, fire, and associated life safety systems
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive call-outs
- Electrical testing, wiring, and fault diagnosis of control panels and field devices
- Completing commissioning sheets, service reports, and compliance documentation
- Conducting dynamic risk assessments and working in line with health & safety requirements
- Liaising professionally with clients, site teams, and project stakeholders
- Background as a Service or Commissioning Engineer within Smoke, Fire, Security, or Life Safety systems
- Experience working with smoke control systems, fire dampers, AOVs, extract fans, or fire alarm interfaces
- Strong electrical fault-finding and commissioning capability
- Confident reading fire strategies, engineering drawings, and cause & effect matrices
- Knowledge of relevant British Standards (BS7671, fire safety regulations, building services standards)
- Full UK driving licence
- Electrical qualifications (City & Guilds or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Inspection & Testing experience
- Asbestos Awareness / First Aid
- Salary between £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience
- Monday to Friday working pattern (minimum 40 hours)
