The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical leadership of complex civil engineering and energy infrastructure projects across the UK. Work streams include civils and enabling works for onshore windfarms, transmission assets, substations, and battery storage developments, supporting schemes from early feasibility through preconstruction and into deliver.
This position offers and excellent opportunity for candidates from a consultancy background seeking a contractor role, where technical knowledge can be applied directly to construction planning, buildability, and risk management, with greater influence over how projects can be delivered on site.
As Principal Engineer you will:
* Lead the technical input on complex civil engineering schemes from early feasibility through to tender submission and transition into delivery
* Provide engineering leadership during preconstruction, developing robust construction methodologies, sequencing, and risk mitigation strategies
* Review and challenge designs to ensure buildability, technical compliance, value optimisation, and commercial efficiency
* Act as a technical advisor during client and consultant meetings, clearly articulating engineering strategies and solutions
Our client requires a Principal Engineer with:
* Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
* Chartered Engineer or working towards (CEng) status or equivalent (ICE, IStruct
E, or similar)
* Strong technical knowledge of engineering practices and construction standards.
* Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams, including mentoring junior engineers and managing workflow
* Experience in client liaison, stakeholder engagement, and technical reporting
Salary and benefits include:
* £60,000 - £70,000
* Company vehicle/car allowance
* 26 days annual leave + bank holidays
