Senior Engineer (Roads) – WSP UK & Ireland
Join WSP’s Roads team to design and deliver world‑class major road projects in the UK and Ireland. You’ll work alongside talented engineers, project managers and clients, delivering projects from early design through to successful handover.
Responsibilities- Deliver engineering solutions for projects or work packages of varying scale, complexity and stage.
- Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and internal disciplines, building trusted relationships and managing expectations.
- Co‑plan, co‑programme and co‑price proposals and deliverables with Project and Technical Delivery Leads.
- Check, certify designs, documents and reports prior to approval.
- Lead and coordinate resources during project or package delivery.
- Mentor and upskill junior staff, helping them progress towards professional qualifications.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in‑house quality assurance standards/processes.
- A passion for design and innovative engineering solutions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Hold IEng or be working towards CEng, with demonstrable progress.
- Experience of highway design throughout the project life cycle; knowledge of geometry, active travel, drainage, restraints, pavements, traffic signs and utilities.
- Broad knowledge of relevant design standards and best‑practice codes such as Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Active Travel Act guidance and local authority guidance.
- Experience leading single or multi‑disciplinary projects or work packages.
- Proficiency in relevant software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley Open Roads Designer, Info Drainage, Causeway, PDS).
- Knowledge of CDM duty holders and proactive risk management.
- Excellent communication, client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
