Looking to take your first step into a rewarding career in SEN? If you've recently completed a degree in Early Childhood Studies and want to put your knowledge into meaningful practice, this role is an excellent way to begin your professional journey.
Working within an SEN school gives you the chance to apply your understanding of early development, behaviour, communication and learning directly into a real classroom environment. It's an opportunity to make a genuine difference while gaining hands‑on experience with children who benefit from a nurturing, individualised approach.
What the role involves:- Supporting teachers in creating a safe, structured and caring learning environment.
- Encouraging positive behaviour using calm, child‑centred strategies.
- Working with smaller class groups (typically 5-8 pupils) and occasionally supporting learners 1:1.
- Helping children with communication needs, sensory processing differences or developmental delays.
- Working closely with multi‑disciplinary teams to follow personalised learning plans.
- Bringing a warm, enthusiastic attitude that promotes a happy and inclusive school culture.
The school supports learners aged 3-19 with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), PMLD and physical or communication-based needs. Their approach focuses on helping every child develop confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing, from early years through to sixth form.
It's a setting built on care, consistency and high aspirations, where staff work together to provide meaningful, life‑enhancing learning experiences.
What you'll need:- A degree in Early Childhood Studies (or similar early years/child development discipline).
- An Enhanced DBS (support available if needed).
- Registration with the EWC (guidance provided).
- No teaching qualifications required.
- SEN experience is helpful but not essential. Enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn are the most important qualities.
- Ability to stay calm, compassionate and supportive in high‑pressure or emotional situations.
