The team is responsible for delivering a front-line service. We deliver a variety of r oad s afety and a ctive t ravel initiatives to children, young people and adults who live, work or study in Cardiff.
About the jobThe purpose of the job is to deliver National Standard Cycle Training courses to children and adults in Cardiff.
A typical week would be working with another Road Safety Education Officer in a primary school Monday-Thursday. On Monday you would deliver National Standard Cycle Training level 1 on the yard. Tuesday-Thursday you would deliver level 2 training on roads near the school. Where needed, you would also run a learn to ride/improvers session for pupils who need to improve their cycling skills.
Fridays you would be delivering learn to ride training, level 1-3 or other cycle training courses to adults or school pupils.
Unless you are based in a double or triple intake school, you will move to different schools each week, working with different members of the team.
During the school holidays we run various cycling courses for children and adults.
The post holder will also assist the Road Safety Team with other initiatives when needed.
What We Are Looking For From YouThe successful candidate should:
- Have e xcellent cycling skills with the ability to ride to the National Standard in Cycle Training Level 3.
- Have the ability to carry out reasonable adjustments on a bike.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Have the ability to teach and train children and adults.
- Be IT literate, able to use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
- Have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage work schedules and prioritise tasks.
- Have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude to new challenges and a willingness to adapt quickly to change.
- Have a commitment to the Council’s strategies, policies, and Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Have a willingness to undertake personal development and further training.
Appointment to this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Child Workforce Barred List check.
This role is part-time at 30 hours per week (6 hours per day), 39 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part-time hours and weeks worked.
