About the role

As an SEN Sports Coach, you will play a key role in supporting the class teacher to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive environment where students of all abilities can enjoy physical activity and develop essential life skills such as movement, communication, and teamwork.

  • You will work with small groups of 5-10 students, including those with additional learning needs, and may provide 1:1 support to help each learner participate safely and confidently.
  • Your role will be important both in and out of the classroom, helping students with ALN build independence, confidence, and resilience through adapted activities and consistent encouragement.
  • Building strong relationships with students and staff, this is key to responding effectively in challenging situations and ensuring every learner feels supported.
Requirements
  • We do not require prior experience in working in a SEN environment or with children (although prior experience in working with those with ALN is preferred).
  • You must have a genuine willingness to work in a SEN setting and a drive to leave a positive lasting impression on all those you nurture, assist and work with.
  • A resilient attitude and ability to quickly and calmly adapt in high‑pressure environments.
  • Ability to travel to different school bases across Cardiff, including Barry and Penarth.
About the School

The school caters to learners aged 3‑19 years‑old with ALN. This includes but is not limited to Autistic Spectrum condition (ASC), profound, multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), and physical disabilities (PD). The school strives to support capable learners right the way through from primary ages to sixth form, where they are getting ready to take their next steps. The school's core values aim to underpin the students’ attitudes throughout their lives by nurturing the growth of healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives.

The school’s main site is in Penarth but has bases around the Barry and surrounding Cardiff Areas.
