Consultant in Fetal Medicine

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are seeking a dedicated and compassionate, sub-specialty trained Fetal Medicine Consultant to join our multidisciplinary team at the University Hospital of Wales. This is a 7-session post with no on-call commitment.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £77,168 per annum to £112,665 per annum for a 7-session commitment.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

duties of the job

The Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) in Cardiff is the only specialist FMU in Wales. It provides specialised high quality evidence-based care, to women from across the whole of South Wales. It provides a range of pre-pregnancy, antenatal and post-natal care.

As a key member of the fetal medicine team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive fetal medicine care including ultrasound, counselling and diagnostic procedures. You will work collaboratively with other specialised services such as, neonatology, palliative care, paediatric surgery, paediatric cardiology, clinical genetics and molecular/cytogenetics, virologists/microbiologists and local multidisciplinary teams including, obstetricians, midwives, GPs, health visitors, social workers and bereavement services etc.

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University s School of Medicine will be expected.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT due within 6 months of interview date (note that Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM or equivalent in medical education
Experience
  • Sub-specialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Able to demonstrate ability to work in a regional service at Consultant level
Skills
  • Able to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients and provide an expert clinical opinion on a range of problems
