Main duties of the job
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be the provision of high‑quality Heart Rhythm care to both elective and emergency patients. This includes:
- Contribute to the running of the Tertiary Heart Rhythm Service with particular emphasis on expanding catheter ablation services
- Provide, with colleagues, out‑patient cardiology clinics and associated services, including referral triage, electronic advice and clinical report systems
- Contribute to cardiac multidisciplinary working and MDT meetings
- Help deliver a high quality inpatient Heart Rhythm Consult service
- Participate in a 1 in 8 on‑call rota for weekend cover and 1:12 for Monday to Friday cover
You will be expected to work flexibly with the other Consultants and clinical teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal utilisation of cardiac catheterisation lab and bed resources.
Although this post is full‑time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £121,264 per annum.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Person Specification Essential- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Higher Degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- On GMC Specialist Register for specialty
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
- Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation or equivalent
- Recognised ability as a clinical cardiologist and heart rhythm cardiologist
- Recognised ability as an AF ablationist
- Recognised ability as a device implanter
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Effective and demonstrable communication skills
- Broad training and experience in the practice of clinical Cardiology including ECG interpretation
- Ability to critically appraise research
- Evidence of teaching medical students and resident doctors
- Evidence of effective leadership skills
