Healthcare Consultant, Medical Doctor
Responsibilities
The main duties will usually involve a mix of inpatient, outpatient and community work. Post holders will have access to regular clinical supervision from their consultant supervisors. Post holders will assume the responsibilities normally associated with CT1-3 level appointments in Psychiatry.
Training & DevelopmentAlthough these FTA posts are not formally approved for training, doctors will be afforded the same in‑house training opportunities as our trainees with access to a weekly postgraduate psychiatric education programme supported by junior and senior staff, comprising MRCPsych teaching, case & journal club presentations and introductory psychotherapy training. Many of our previous fixed term appointees have applied for and successfully achieved training places with the Wales Deanery whilst working within our health board.
Doctors will be encouraged to take part in audit and will also be given access to funded external study leave. In addition, to support education, there are excellent library facilities on the St Cadocs and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr sites.
These fixed term posts provide an excellent developmental opportunity for doctors who have passed their FY2 (or equivalent) competencies to gain experience of working in psychiatry and mental health prior to committing to a specialty core training programme. These posts within the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities (MHLD) Division will allow doctors to gain experience in the psychiatric subspecialties of general adult, old age or learning disabilities with the additional opportunity to experience forensic, child and adolescent, old age liaison and addictions on a "taster" or special interest basis.
RequirementsThe area of Gwent (ABUHB) is geographically dispersed and travelling is a pre‑requisite of this post. Post holders are expected to hold a full UK driving licence (or equivalent) and have access to their own transport. All ABUHB hospitals are within reasonable commuting distance of Cardiff.
