The BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) seeks a Principal Tuba in its low brass section. The role involves performing orchestral work as required and acting in accordance with the BBC/MU Orchestras Agreement. The principal tuba will work closely with the Section Principal (Donal Bannister) and the conductor team.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform in orchestra concerts, broadcasts, recordings, and occasional studio soundtrack work.
- Contribute to rehearsals and ensure punctual, prepared performances.
- Collaborate with fellow musicians and management to maintain high artistic standards.
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Excellent professional orchestral and solo playing abilities.
- Knowledge of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales repertoire.
- Ability to work effectively and flexibly within a diverse team.
- Commitment to punctual, prepared performance.
Desirable:
- Broad experience in chamber music, education, and studio soundtrack work.
- Prior performance as a Principal in a professional orchestra.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Self‑motivated and able to work under pressure.
- Cooperative team player.
- Willingness to develop positive relationships with orchestra members and management.
