Estimator / Site Surveyor – Balustrades, Balconies & Stairs
Salary 35-45k depending on experience.
RoleThe Estimator / Site Surveyor is responsible for accurately surveying sites, interpreting architectural and structural drawings, and preparing detailed cost estimates for bespoke balustrade, balcony, and stair systems. The role bridges design, manufacturing, and installation by ensuring all technical, dimensional, and commercial information is correct from enquiry through to handover. Competitive Salary of 35-45k depending on experience. 25 days holiday. Pension.
Key Responsibilities Site Surveying- Carry out accurate site surveys for balustrades, balconies, staircases, handrails, and associated metal, glass, or composite systems
- Verify site conditions against drawings, identifying discrepancies, access constraints, tolerances, and fixing requirements
- Record precise dimensions, levels, angles, and interfaces with other trades
- Assess installation risks, access methods, and health & safety considerations
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and site managers during surveys
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, and site survey data
- Measure and quantify materials including steel, aluminium, glass, fixings, finishes, and coatings
- Price labour, fabrication, finishing, transport, and installation costs
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations where required
- Produce clear and competitive quotations, including exclusions and assumptions
- Interpret architectural, structural, and fabrication drawings
- Identify value engineering opportunities without compromising quality or compliance
- Ensure designs and estimates comply with relevant building regulations, standards, and industry best practice (e.g. loadings, guarding heights, glass specifications)
- Support project managers and production teams with technical clarification
- Assist with variations, re-measurements, and post-contract cost control
- Act as a key point of contact between sales, design, production, and installation teams
- Attend pre-contract and post-contract meetings as required
- Maintain accurate records of surveys, estimates, and revisions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating and surveying processes
- Must have relevant experience in balustrade/stair estimating and site surveying
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Confident communicator with clients and site teams
- Competent in measurement, take-offs, and cost build-ups
- Experience with glass balustrades, structural glass, aluminium systems, or steel fabrication
- Knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant standards
- Experience using estimating or CAD-related software
- CSCS card or equivalent site certification
- Methodical and well organised
