Overview
The General Law Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office represents the interests of the State of Illinois and its people in civil trial litigation. The Bureau functions as a defense law firm for the State, its officers, agencies and employees. It also prosecutes certain proceedings, such as actions to enforce labor laws, banking and insurance practice regulations, licensing actions, and revenue collection for the State.
Areas include personal injury, property damage, injunctions, administrative hearings and reviews, declaratory judgments, federal and state civil rights cases, class actions, bankruptcy and employment discrimination matters, contract and construction law, torts, securities regulations, labor law, prisoner’s rights, election law, license revocations, banking and constitutional law.
- Support the General Law Bureau’s defense work for the State of Illinois and its officers, agencies, and employees.
- Engage in trial preparation and research related to a broad range of civil matters.
- Assist in actions to enforce labor laws, regulate banking and insurance practices, licensing actions, and revenue collection as applicable to defense or prosecution matters.
- Contribute to case strategy, writing, and analysis across areas such as personal injury, contract, tort, administrative law, and civil rights matters as assigned.
- Licensed in Illinois at the time of application.
- Strong judgment with excellent research and writing skills.
- Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work and a commitment to public service.
Salary is commensurate with years of practice as a licensed attorney and ranges from $84,480 to $107,550.
