Duties

The primary responsibility of the principal is the supervision and improvement of instruction and professional competencies. A major portion of the principal's time shall be spent on ensuring that a guaranteed viable curriculum is provided for all students. The principal is responsible for the establishment of a highly collaborative school culture focused on continuous improvement. The principal is also responsible for the organization and administration of the school through the management of communications, personnel, student discipline, services and resources, facilities, and records.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

* Works effectively with diverse groups of individuals, ranging from employees to parents of students

* Leads/facilitates group processes.

* Leads and collaborates with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external entities to raise academic performance.

* Motivates, guides, and supervises staff.

* Excels in a fast-paced, high-performing, and at times, unpredictable environment.

* Works well under pressure, handles stressful situations, organizes and maintains numerous details, works independently and meets deadlines

* Ability to respond to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner while meeting deadlines as assigned

* Provides active instructional leadership to plan, operate and evaluate the educational program.

* Devotes the majority of his/her time as the instructional leader of the school.

* Develops school goals that focus on student achievement and communicates these goals to the entire school community.

* Supervises and evaluates instruction to ensure that school goals are translated into classroom practice.

* Coordinates the curriculum to ensure continuity across grade levels as well as classroom content and achievement testing alignment.

* Monitors student progress through the effective use of standardized and criterion-referenced testing to assess and diagnose program outcome.

* Evaluates the results of change in the school's instructional program.

* Promotes professional growth by informing staff of opportunities for development by leading and/or supporting in-service training activities.

* Maintains high visibility on the campus and in classrooms to provide a greater understanding of the needs of students and teachers.

* Analyzes current research and practice, building and district test data, student and staff characteristics and new legislation in terms of program evaluation, modification, and development.

* Promotes incentives for learning by frequently rewarding and recognizing student academic achievement and improvement both within the classroom and the school as a whole.

* Develops positive public relations with community and parent/teacher organizations to promote support for the goals and mission of the school.

* Implements Board of Education policies and administrative procedures and adheres to state laws and regulations.

* Actively involves the instructional staff in the review, refinement, development, and implementation of curriculum.

* Assists teachers in the review, selection, development, and use of instructional materials to support the educational program.

* Coordinates special service programs to provide assistance to students who require such services.

* Conducts needs assessment and uses qualitative and quantitative data-to-plan and access school programs.

* Promotes the use of technology resources to encourage the use of engaged learning, integrating technology into the curriculum.

* Prepares, coordinates, and reviews the entire school budget to support an effective school program, and to apply sound principles of economy in obtaining and distributing school supplies and equipment.

* Manages the building and its facilities through a coordinated effort with central office administration regarding needs in personnel, equipment, supplies and curriculum resources.
