Social Worker at the Parent Centre

Job Description

This is a Social Worker post in the PACES team. This employment opportunity is open to suitably qualified applicants who have at least 3-5 years social work and counselling experience and who are fluent in English and/or Afrikaans / Isi-Xhosa. Parenting experience will be an advantage. We work with parents, other caregivers, professionals and community workers working with families. If you are passionate about parenting and the development of the whole child, then this is a position for you.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Individual Counselling for parents and caregivers in Athlone, Wynberg and elsewhere, where needed.
  • Assistance with follow-up procedures and co-ordination of the counselling. This follow-up will include involvement in the Counselling portfolio Monitoring and Evaluation processes.
  • Additional duties include marketing of counselling services.
  • Facilitating parenting training, workshops and talks, this includes planning, co-ordination and Monitoring and Evaluation processes.
  • Responding to media requests.
  • Additional duties may include helping the PACES programme in events, training courses, and M&E processes as the need arise.
Qualifications And Requirements
  • Registered with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP)
  • At least 3-5 years working experience in the social work field which should include experience in counselling families and adults.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of child development, and family stages of development and support.
  • Computer skilled (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of The Children’s Act will be an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences; a professional demeanour; the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion as well as the ability to work in a team will help secure this position.
