HVAC​/Refrigeration Technician

This hands‑on role is essential in ensuring energy‑efficient performance, stable climate control, and uninterrupted restaurant operations. The technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient functioning of all HVAC and refrigeration systems across assigned sites including kitchens, dining areas, cold rooms, freezers, condensers, and associated control equipment. The position integrates preventive maintenance, advanced fault diagnosis and repair, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, extend asset life, and uphold stringent food‑safety and customer‑comfort standards.

Planned & Reactive Maintenance

• Perform Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) on commercial refrigeration systems (walk‑ins, under‑counter units, ice machines) and HVAC equipment (split units, package units, ventilation and extraction systems) in accordance with OEM and company schedules.
• Respond to breakdowns, conduct root‑cause analysis, and complete corrective repairs within SLA.

Fault Diagnosis & Repair

• Diagnose and repair faults on compressors, evaporators, condensers, fans, controls, VFDs, TXVs/EEVs, sensors, and electrical circuits (single‑phase and three‑phase).
• Troubleshoot and calibrate control systems including thermostats, PLC/BMS interfaces, defrost controls, inverter drives, and pressure/temperature sensors.

Refrigerant Management

• Perform leak detection, recovery, evacuation, and system charging.
• Maintain accurate refrigerant‑handling records in alignment with environmental and statutory regulations.

Air Quality & Comfort Control

• Ensure compliance with air quality and comfort standards, managing temperature, humidity, and airflow in customer areas and kitchens
• Balance kitchen extraction and make‑up air systems to support safe and comfortable work environments.

Compliance & Reporting

• Complete service reports, parts usage, time confirmations, photos, and recommendations using the CMMS/mobile application within set SLAs
• Ensure cold‑chain compliance for food safety, including temperature integrity checks, alarm responses, and corrective actions.
• Adhere to company safety systems and maintain tools, vehicles, and spares in audit‑ready condition.

Installations & Upgrades

• Assist with installation, commissioning, and system upgrades, including retrofits, new store openings, and refurbishments.

• Trade Test:
  Refrigeration Mechanic / HVAC Technician.
• Valid driver's license
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Proven experience in commercial refrigeration and HVAC maintenance/repairs
• Strong understanding of electrical circuits (single‑phase and three‑phase).
• Knowledge of environmental and refrigerant management regulations
• Experience with walk‑in cold rooms/freezers, reach‑ins, ice machines, and commercial refrigeration equipment.
• Experience with split/package HVAC units, ventilation, and extraction systems.
• Working knowledge of basic BMS/PLC control interfaces.
• Familiarity with food‑safety temperature‑compliance processes (advantageous).
• Customer service orientation

• Must be based in Somerset West or willing to relocate
