In this role, you will assist with Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) activities, support technicians during breakdowns and call‑out responses, and help maintain food‑safety compliance by ensuring cold‑chain temperature integrity. You will be expected to promote safe working practices at all times while developing the technical skills and competencies required to progress toward becoming a fully qualified technician.
What You'll Be Cooking Up:- Assist with servicing and repairing cold rooms, freezers, under‑counter units, display fridges, ice machines, and air‑conditioning units.
- Support routine maintenance tasks, including condenser cleaning, filter changes, temperature checks, and basic component replacements.
- Assist with the installation and setup of split units, ventilation systems, and refrigeration components.
- Perform basic diagnostic checks as instructed, such as temperature readings, pressure measurements, and visual inspections.
- Support refrigerant management activities including recovery, evacuation, and charging under qualified supervision.
- Collect and prepare tools, materials, and spare parts required for daily job tasks.
What You Bring to the Table:
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 equivalent).
- Basic technical training or a certificate in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (NQF Level 2–3 or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a refrigeration or technical support role
- Basic understanding of electrical safety principles.
- Technical curiosity and willingness to learn refrigeration and HVAC systems
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions accurately and safely.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and under supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
- Professional and respectful conduct when interacting in store environments.
- Safety‑focused mindset with strong awareness of hazards and compliance with procedures.
- Good time‑management skills; punctual, reliable, and able to assist with urgent job tasks.
- Must be based in Somerset West area or willing to relocate.
