Maintenance Assistant; Equipment & Electrical

We are seeking a highly competent and dedicated Assistant Technician to support the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialised kitchen equipment used across KFC restaurants. The role focuses on Henny Penny pressure and open fryers, Winston Collectramatic pressure and open fryers, upright holding cabinets, and a wide range of general kitchen equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, sound problem‑solving abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment to ensure the reliable and continuous operation of all kitchen equipment.

Maintenance & Repair

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Henny Penny pressure and open fryers, Winston Collectramatic pressure and open fryers, and upright holding cabinets.
• Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of kitchen equipment, including fryers, holding cabinets, ovens, grills, and other general kitchen appliances.
• Conduct routine inspections to ensure all equipment is operating safely and at optimal performance levels

Installation

• Assist with the installation of new kitchen equipment and systems, ensuring all work complies with company standards and relevant health and safety regulations.

Equipment Calibration

• Calibrate fryers, holding cabinets, and other kitchen equipment to maintain accurate cooking and holding temperatures.
• Test all equipment following maintenance or installation to confirm proper operation and compliance with safety requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all service requests, maintenance activities, and repairs performed on each piece of equipment.

• Diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to restaurant operations.

Troubleshooting & Emergency Support

• Respond promptly to emergency service calls, resolving issues quickly to minimize kitchen downtime.

• Submit daily or weekly reports outlining completed work, outstanding issues, and recommendations for equipment replacements or upgrades

Compliance

• Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to company standards, health and safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, disposing of materials and components in accordance with safety guidelines.

What You Bring to the Table:

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 equivalent).
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transport for travel between KFC locations.
• Willingness to work on‑call and flexible hours.
• Minimum 3+years' experience as an Equipment Technician.
• Proven experience with Henny Penny and Winston Collectramatic fryers, upright holding cabinets, and general kitchen equipment.
• Strong electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems knowledge.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Skilled in troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment faults under pressure.
• Strong problem‑solving ability; able to work independently or in a team.
• Good communication skills, able to explain technical issues clearly.
• Able to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment.
• Certification on Henny Penny equipment (advantageous).
• Certification on Winston Collectramatic equipment (advantageous).
• Must be based in Somerset West area.
