The VUKA Research Clinic is a leading clinical research facility dedicated to advancing health through innovative scientific research and high-quality clinical care. The clinic conducts cutting-edge research studies focused on infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV, and other priority public health conditions, while supporting the development of improved diagnostics, treatments, and prevention strategies.
With a strong commitment to excellence in research, patient-centred care, and community engagement, the clinic works closely with local and international collaborators to translate research findings into meaningful health outcomes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree / Diploma in General Nursing
- 2 years’ general nursing experience (post comm serv)
- Clinical Assessment, Phlebotomy & Vaccination Experience
- Good Clinical Practice Certification (advantageous)
- Fluency in English and a second language (Afrikaans and / or isi Xhosa)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational and time management skills
- Conduct informed consent and perform protocol-required clinical procedures in line with study requirements.
- Provide pregnancy and contraception assessment and counselling, HIV pre- and post-test counselling, risk-reduction guidance, and adherence support.
- Perform clinical assessments including vital signs, symptom review, specimen collection (urine, blood, vaginal swabs), and administration and monitoring of study drugs/vaccinations.
- Complete point-of-care testing (pregnancy, urinalysis, HIV, haemoglobin, glucose) and collaborate with laboratory staff on sample processing and storage per protocol.
- Ensure accurate data documentation in compliance with GCP, assist with data entry and query resolution, and perform quality control on participant files according to SOPs.
- Support study and site administration, including stock control, ordering of consumables and laboratory kits, infection control, biohazard waste management, and maintaining fully stocked clinic rooms and emergency trolley.
- Assist with clinic bookings and participant flow to support efficient site operations.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions, maintain access to study management systems, and communicate effectively with stakeholders using multiple platforms.
- 3-month Fixed Term Contract
- Working hours:
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday - Position based in Khayelitsha
