Legal Secretary position available in Cape Town.
Do you have minimum 5 years’ experience working for a legal company and are able to travel to our well-established client’s office in the Cape Town CBD area?
We require Legal Secretary skills, an applicant who thrives under pressure, understands litigation procedures, and takes pride in delivering accurate, efficient support to legal professionals.
This is a key role to ensure the smooth running of commercial and civil litigation matters, offering both administrative excellence and sound legal knowledge within a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:
- Matric, plus relevant legal qualification
- A sound understanding of High Court litigation processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience in commercial agreements
- Strong organisational, communication, and administrative skills
- The ability to work independently
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafting, formatting, and preparing court pleadings, notices, affidavits, summonses, and commercial agreements
- Managing filing of court documents via relevant court systems and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines
- Diary management for attorneys, including court dates, consultations, and deadlines
- Liaising with clients, counsel, sheriffs, messengers, and court officials in a professional manner
- Managing litigation files (physical and electronic), ensuring accurate indexing and record keeping
- Preparing and managing trial bundles, discovery files, and pagination
- Attending to billing, time capturing, invoicing, and follow-ups on outstanding accounts
- Opening, maintaining, and closing client files in accordance with firm procedures
- Conducting basic legal research and assisting with case preparation where required
- Handling correspondence, emails, and telephone communications
- Ensuring compliance with FICA, POPIA, and internal compliance requirements (if applicable)
- Performing ad hoc administrative and secretarial duties as required
