JOB OVERVIEWA commercially focused Data Analyst to enhance and optimise the online retail experience for a major omnichannel business. This position covers the full spectrum of e‑commerce analytics—from website traffic, conversion, and customer behaviour, to fulfilment and post‑purchase experience. You will partner closely with Product Owners, Digital Marketing, Merchandising, Fulfilment, and Technology teams to turn data into actionable business recommendations.
This is a hands‑on role encompassing data collection, defining data products, reporting, dashboard creation, and generating insights that drive commercial impact.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Analytics & Insights- Track and analyse e‑commerce performance, including traffic patterns, sales funnels, product performance, basket metrics, and fulfilment effectiveness.
- Generate ad‑hoc and recurring reports with clear insights and recommendations.
- Identify trends, opportunities, and potential issues affecting online business performance.
- Create, maintain, and enhance dashboards to enable self‑service analytics.
- Present insights in a clear and actionable format for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define data requirements, event tracking, and metrics.
- Specify datasets, tables, and analytics products to support business decisions.
- Ensure high‑quality data and readiness for new e‑commerce initiatives and releases.
- Evaluate the impact of website updates, promotions, campaigns, and product launches.
- Define KPIs, measure results, and recommend optimisations.
- Support predictive analytics initiatives such as demand forecasting and conversion optimisation.
- Advanced SQL (Big Query) for data extraction and analysis.
- Experience with Google Analytics / GA4 and e‑commerce event tracking.
- Familiarity with Shopify data structures and other e‑commerce platforms.
- Data visualisation experience (Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong foundation in statistics, data modelling, and data quality management.
- Awareness of data privacy regulations, including POPIA.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Commercial mindset and ability to link data insights to business outcomes.
- Confident presenting findings to diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Creative and curious approach to analysis.
- Self‑motivated, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Team player with mentoring and knowledge‑sharing abilities.
- Friendly, patient, and supportive communication style.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a commercial, technical, or analytical field.
- Minimum of 5 years in a data analytics or business intelligence role.
- Proven track record in e‑commerce, digital, or online retail analytics.
- Experience working with product teams and technical stakeholders to define and deliver data solutions.
- Bricks & Mortar Retail experience
