Overview
Financial Controller - Lead the Financial Strategy for a Major US Utilities Group. Remote role based in South Africa. Accounting & Finance | R65,000 - R80,000/month | Remote (South Africa) | US Working Hours (PST)
About Our ClientOur client is a well-established US-based infrastructure and utilities group operating through several key subsidiaries across pipeline, excavation, and traffic management services. Known for their commitment to innovation, safety, and service delivery, they are seeking a Finance Controller in South Africa to join their remote team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute at a strategic level, working closely with senior leadership while supporting long-term growth and financial integrity.
Responsibilities- Lead the full finance function across all business entities, driving accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations; act as a trusted strategic partner to the CFO; responsible for reporting, budgeting, audits, and team leadership.
- Mentor and manage a remote accounting team across AP, AR, payroll, and GL functions.
- Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annually).
- Oversee compliance, audits, tax filings, and maintain robust internal controls.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Monitor cash flow and capital needs to support business growth.
- Provide financial analysis and modeling to support strategic decisions.
- Support M&A activities, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration.
- Identify financial risks, drive cost efficiencies, and improve operational processes.
- Minimum 7 years' finance experience, with 3+ years in a senior or leadership role.
- CPA qualified (essential), with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with financial planning, analysis, reporting, and team leadership.
- Strong ERP experience (e.g., Sage, Net Suite) and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience in the construction or utilities sector preferred.
- Clear communicator who can simplify financial insights for non-finance stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail-driven, and able to thrive in a remote, deadline-driven environment.
