The Role: Senior FX Dealer
Reporting to the Head FX Dealer, the Senior FX Dealer is responsible for the performance of the trading book and the overall success of the FX desk across operations, sales, and profitability. The role combines active trade execution, risk management, client relationship management, and business development, with a strong focus on delivering value to clients while managing margins and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute FX trades accurately and timeously on behalf of clients
- Secure competitive exchange rates while managing margins within agreed parameters
- Monitor global market conditions, economic events, and currency movements
- Assess and manage market and exchange rate risk for clients
- Provide clients with market insights, analysis, and house views when required
- Ensure full compliance with SARB Exchange Control, AML, and KYC requirements
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key clients
- Deliver personalised service aligned to clients business and personal FX needs
- Measure and manage client satisfaction through feedback and surveys
- Proactively manage client relationships through regular calls and meetings
- Identify and execute cross-selling opportunities to existing clients
- Resolve client queries, complaints, and issues effectively and professionally
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities through market research
- Generate leads from internal and external sources
- Support Business Consultants with RFQs, pricing discussions, and market input
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, clients, and partners
- Contribute to retention strategies and revenue growth initiatives
About You
- Proven experience or strong exposure in FX dealing or trading environments
- Solid understanding of foreign exchange markets and trading dynamics
- Strong commercial awareness with a focus on profitability and margin management
- Excellent relationship management and client engagement skills
- Confident decision-maker with strong risk assessment capabilities
- Able to communicate market insights clearly to clients and internal teams
- Proactive, disciplined, and organised with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across sales and distribution teams
- High ethical standards and strong compliance awareness
- Matric qualification required
- Tertiary qualification in finance or a related field required
- RE exams may be required
- ACI Dealing Certificate would be advantageous
- FX dealing experience or exposure would be advantageous
